LÍCIA DO PRADO VALLADARES’S TRAJECTORY AND THE CONSTITUTION OF THE URBAN STUDIES FIELD IN BRAZIL

Resumo: This work analyzes the trajectory of the sociologist Lícia Valladares and her contribution to the field of urban studies, where she played a leading role. She researched the themes of favelas, housing, urban poverty, social movements. and poor childhood. In the 2000s, she began to study the Chicago School of Sociology, contributing to forming a social-urban thinking in Brazil, in dialogue with French and North American sociologies. Note her role in registering and disseminating works on the urban by the creation of the UrbanData database, which made vast bibliographic balances on the themes of her research possible, meeting her epistemological stance, which advocated in-depth knowledge of the state of the art of each subject of investigation. Lícia Valladares’ trajectory reveals different facets of urban studies in Brazil, including themes of a micro and macro nature, relevant to the constitution of a research agenda. The sociologist played an outstanding role in creating transnational research networks, and in training new researchers.

Elle a fait des recherches sur les thèmes des favelas, du logement, de la pauvreté urbaine, des mouvements sociaux et de l'enfance pauvre. Dans les années 2000, elle a commencé des études sur l’École de Sociologie de Chicago, contribuant à la formation de la pensée socio-urbaine au Brésil, en dialogue avec les sociologies françaises et nord-américaines. Son rôle dans l'enregistrement et la diffusion des travaux sur l'urbain est mis en évidence par la création de la base de données UrbanData, qui a permis des bilans bibliographiques sur les thèmes de ses recherches, répondant à sa posture épistémologique, qui prônait une connaissance approfondie de l’état de l'art de l'objet de chaque enquête. La trajectoire de Lícia Valladares révèle différentes facettes des études urbaines au Brésil, y compris des thèmes de nature micro et macro, pertinents pour la constitution d'un programme de recherche. Elle a aussi joué un rôle remarquable dans la création de réseaux de recherche transnationaux et la formation de nouveaux chercheurs.Este trabalho analisa a trajetória da socióloga Lícia Valladares e sua contribuição para o campo dos estudos urbanos, em que exerceu papel de liderança. Ela pesquisou os temas favela, habitação, pobreza urbana, movimentos sociais e infância pobre. Nos anos 2000, passa a estudar a Escola de Sociologia de Chicago, contribuindo para a formação de um pensamento social-urbano no Brasil, em diálogo com as sociologias francesa e norte-americana. Destaque-se seu papel no registro e na divulgação de trabalhos sobre o urbano, mediante a criação do banco de dados Urbandata, que viabilizou balanços bibliográficos sobre os temas de suas pesquisas, o que veio ao encontro de sua postura epistemológica, que preconizava o conhecimento aprofundado do estado da arte do objeto de cada investigação. A trajetória de Lícia Valladares revela diferentes facetas dos estudos urbanos no Brasil, incluindo temas de natureza micro e macro, relevantes para a constituição de uma agenda de pesquisas.
