Mapping public policies aimed at LGBT people:: some achievements and many challenges

This article aims to present the main public policies aimed at the LGBT population in Brazil, discussing theiradvances and limitations, as well as to map the public services of the city of Belém as an example of incipient attention network to this population. The analysis of the municipal and national programs and equipment guaranteeing the rights of LGBT people indicate that, despite the evident progress of such policies, they are still small in number in the face of the existing demand. These people require preventive and remedial strategies that guarantee adequate care in relation to the rights to health, safety, housing etc. However, the current political scenario seems to be moving in the opposite direction to guaranteeing the rights of those who do not comply with heteronormativity, thus threating the continuity of the few existing LGBT policies, as well as the creation of new public policies.
