In order to analyze the potential and propose improvements to Power Line Communication (PLC) technologies applied to the transmission of control signals in Smart Grids (SG), this work presents the fundamentals of PLC technologies and describes in detail the characteristics of the main standards present in the market. The performance of the physical layer of these standards was analyzed for different PLC channel conditions, taking into account the different types of channel noise, such as thermal and impulsive noises. An analysis based on the results of these simulations and the characteristics of the standards, showed that narrowband PLCs (NB-PLC), such as the G3-PLC / IEEE 1901.2, are the most suitable for the investigated application. In addition to being robust and having a long range, these technologies are widely used for remote measurement of energy consumption, which allows taking advantage of an existing communication infrastructure. For the validation of the use of the G3-PLC / IEEE 1901.2 standard, a practical test of control data transmission, through a 100-meter power cable, was performed, however, some performance limitations were evidenced when the system was submitted to impulsive interferences. This fact motivated the creation of a proposal to improve the robustness of the studied system, without the need to change the standard and, therefore, the hardware used in the tests. This proposal is based on the use of a non-linear filter in conjunction with the PLC receiver and was tested, by means of computer simulations, in the transmission of power reference waveforms to a predictive control system of DFIG (Doubly-Fed Induction Generator) wind turbines. In the simulations, the analog control waveforms were digitized and transmitted by the G3-PLC / IEEE 1901.2 standard through a channel model based on the parameters of a typical low voltage power grid. In this context, the proposed system, based on non-linear filters, allows to suppress these distortions and reconstruct the original waveform, even with the use of data packages corrupted by the PLC channel. The results of the simulations showed that the proposed system is capable of recovering the waveforms transmitted to the wind turbine without the need for retransmission of the corrupted data packages, even under critical conditions of signal-to-noise ratio, impulsive noise and multipath propagation, considerably reducing latency and increasing the robustness of the communication link.Casella, Ivan Roberto SantanaCapovilla, Carlos EduardoAraujo, Humberto Xavier deMuñoz, Rodrigo ReinaSousa, ThalesSguarezi Filho, Alfeu JoãozinhoPereira, Samuel Castro2020info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersioninfo:eu-repo/semantics/doctoralThesisapplication/pdf210 f. : il.http://biblioteca.ufabc.edu.br/index.php?codigo_sophia=122114http://biblioteca.ufabc.edu.br/index.php?codigo_sophia=122114&midiaext=79196http://biblioteca.ufabc.edu.br/index.php?codigo_sophia=122114&midiaext=79195Cover: http://biblioteca.ufabc.edu.br/php/capa.php?obra=122114porreponame:Repositório Institucional da UFABCinstname:Universidade Federal do ABC (UFABC)instacron:UFABCinfo:eu-repo/semantics/openAccess2022-03-22T16:03:57Zoai:BDTD:122114Repositório InstitucionalPUBhttp://www.biblioteca.ufabc.edu.br/oai/oai.phpopendoar:2022-03-22T16:03:57Repositório Institucional da UFABC - Universidade Federal do ABC (UFABC)false |
