Triply periodic minimal surfaces (TPMS) are porous structures that can be used to create multifunctional materials used for various technological applications. TPMS have complex geometry, therefore, additive manufacturing is shown as the ideal method for their manufacture, due to the geometric flexibility of layered manufacturing. Therefore, this work aims to predict the effects of building orientation on cost and support material consumption of TPMS additively manufactured through machine learning. The design of experiments (DOE) was used to determine the effect of the angles of 30 °, 60 ° and 90 ° of the X, Y and Z axes of the surfaces and the analysis of variance (ANOVA) to determine the relevant statistical interactions. Subsequently, the Multi-Layer Perceptron, Random Tree and K-Nearest Neighbor (IBK) machine learning algorithms were used through WEKA software to predict the cost and support material consumption for each TMPS in different builds orientations. The results showed that the cost of manufacturing the surfaces can vary between 12 and 15% according to the building orientation. Finally, the three algorithms proved to be adequate in the final cost and support material prediction, however, when applying the Merit Index to evaluate the performance of the algorithms, the Multilayer Perceptron algorithm obtained a value of 0.9729 in the final sum of performance with the training set method, and 1.1457 in the cross validation method, these being the smallest values among the three algorithms, indicating that it had the lowest percentage of errors, and consequently, showing the best performance.Del Conte, Erik GustavoAndrade, Alexandre Acácio deMoura, Antonio Àlvaro de AssisAssis, Matheus Mendes da Silva de2021info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersioninfo:eu-repo/semantics/masterThesisapplication/pdf88 f.http://biblioteca.ufabc.edu.br/index.php?codigo_sophia=122320http://biblioteca.ufabc.edu.br/index.php?codigo_sophia=122320&midiaext=79659http://biblioteca.ufabc.edu.br/index.php?codigo_sophia=122320&midiaext=79660Cover: http://biblioteca.ufabc.edu.br/php/capa.php?obra=122320porreponame:Repositório Institucional da UFABCinstname:Universidade Federal do ABC (UFABC)instacron:UFABCinfo:eu-repo/semantics/openAccess2022-05-27T15:30:24Zoai:BDTD:122320Repositório InstitucionalPUBhttp://www.biblioteca.ufabc.edu.br/oai/oai.phpopendoar:2022-05-27T15:30:24Repositório Institucional da UFABC - Universidade Federal do ABC (UFABC)false |
