Resumo: This article focuses on the recent political-ideological developments in Brazil regarding the formation of an authoritarian governmental character. The objective is to analyze the social results of this authoritarian discourse and its resonance in society. The theoretical framework adopted is mainly linked to the study by Theodor Adorno (1903-1969) and Hannah Arendt (1906-1975) about the authoritarian character of the ruler and the link created with the masses from his personality. Practices that aim to build the image of an authoritarian personality are linked, drawing a reflective line with the concept of the trivialization of evil, generated by the normalization of the totalitarian ideal. It will be pertinent to add the Adornian understanding of cultural industry and Freud's ideas in mass psychology and analysis of the self, bringing elements to the understanding of authoritarian irrationality and its massifying capacity. As a result of this initial investigation, the responsiveness of a significant portion of society to the anti-democratic ideal is notorious.
