"i didn't want my child to be teached by a travestite”: : a study about the professional experiences of a transvestite teacher

Resumo: | The present work is an excerpt of a research developed during the master's degree in which we aimed to analyze the experiences of a transvestite teacher in the exercise of teaching. The teacher Louranya had experience in the educational space in public schools in a city in the interior of Bahia. This study was based on the post-critical, post-structuralist studies and also on transfeminist references. With this research we sought to question: how cisnormativity operates in school by continuously violating the transvestite teacher? What resistance strategies did Louranya use to continue as a teacher at school? The empirical material was produced through narrative interviews with the teacher Louranya, with the former school principal and with the mother of one of the students. When starting her teaching career, Louranya experienced transphobia from the school community that did not want her as a teacher of a class in the early years of elementary school. Even though she had the support of the principal, she was persecuted and continually charged, by the vice-principal and some family members, to build herself as the best professional and give her best to continue in the job, including because she was under temporary contract. Louranya got support from several of the students' mothers; however, some of them chose to transfer their children to another school. |

La maestra Louranya tenía experiencia en el espacio educativo en escuelas públicas de una ciudad del interior de Bahía. Este estudio se basó en los estudios post-críticos, post-estructuralistas y también tomando como base las referencias transfeministas. Con esta investigación buscamos cuestionar: ¿Cómo opera la cisnormatividad en la escuela violentando continuamente al profesor travesti? ¿Qué estrategias de resistencia utilizó Louranya para seguir siendo profesora en la escuela? La elaboración del material empírico se llevó a cabo mediante entrevistas narrativas realizadas a la maestra Louranya, al antiguo director de la escuela y a la madre de uno de los alumnos. Al comenzar su carrera docente, Louranya sufrió la transfobia de la comunidad escolar, que no la quería como profesora de una clase de los primeros años de enseñanza básica. Aun contando con el apoyo del director, fue perseguida y acusada continuamente por el subdirector y algunos familiares, por lo que se erigió como la mejor profesional y dio lo mejor de sí misma para continuar en el puesto, incluso porque tenía un contrato temporal. Louranya obtuvo el apoyo de varias de las madres de los alumnos, aunque algunas de ellas optaron por el traslado de sus hijos a otra escuela. O presente trabalho é um recorte de uma pesquisa desenvolvida no mestrado em que objetivamos analisar as vivências de uma professora travesti no exercício da docência. A professora Louranya possuía experiência no espaço educacional em escolas públicas de uma cidade do interior da Bahia. Este estudo pautou-se nos estudos pós-críticos, pós-estruturalistas e também tomando como base os referenciais transfeministas. Com esta pesquisa buscamos questionar: como a cisnormatividade opera na escola violentando continuamente a professora travesti? Quais estratégias de resistência Louranya utilizou para continuar como docente na escola? A produção do material empírico se deu por meio de entrevistas narrativas realizadas com a professora Louranya, com a ex-diretora da escola e com a mãe de um dos estudantes. Ao iniciar sua carreira docente, Louranya vivenciou a transfobia por parte da comunidade escolar que não a queria como docente de uma turma dos anos iniciais do ensino fundamental. Mesmo tendo o apoio da diretora, ela foi perseguida e cobrada continuamente, pelo vice-diretor e alguns familiares, para que se construísse como a melhor profissional e desse o melhor de si para continuar no emprego, inclusive porque estava sob regime de contrato temporário.
