School dropout in professional education in the Amazon: : a literature review

Resumo: School dropout is a longstanding problem in Brazilian education. The term dropout in the literature refers to several situations, such as school dropout, temporary departure of the student from the institution, among others. In the case of Professional Education, there is a contrast between the increasing number of openings and the continuing high dropout rates in the courses. This research is part of a master's research project that aims to investigate the perspectives for dealing with students dropouts in professional education at a local school in the State of Pará. As a part of this research, we present, in this study, the results of a literature review on the subject of school dropout in professional education in the Amazon, based on a bibliographical survey in two databases. The results showed a great variety of research regarding the level of education and modalities studied, but few studies focused on the context of professional education. The themes studied deal mostly with the identification of the various factors that lead students to drop out, including individual and institutional factors. Moreover, in line with recent review studies on school dropout, we found a lack of understanding about the concept of dropout. It is hoped that these results can support new research that focuses on understanding the dropout issue in its various dimensions, especially those directed to vocational education, given the demands related to the world of work that are presented in contemporary times.

El término deserción, en la literatura, se refiere a varias situaciones, como el abandono de la escuela, la salida temporal del estudiante de la institución, entre otros. En el caso de la Formación Profesional, existe una contradicción entre la ampliación de la oferta de plazas y la persistencia de altas tasas de abandono en los cursos de esta modalidad. Esta investigación forma parte de una investigación en desarrollo, de nivel de maestría, que tiene como objetivo investigar las perspectivas de enfrentamiento de la deserción en la educación profesional en una escuela pública de Pará. Como recorte de esta investigación presentamos, en este estudio, los resultados de una revisión bibliográfica sobre el tema de la deserción escolar en la educación profesional en la Amazonia, a partir del relevamiento bibliográfico en dos bases de datos. Los resultados mostraron una gran variedad de investigaciones en lo que concierne al nivel educativo y las modalidades estudiadas, pero pocos estudios se centraron en el contexto de la formación profesional. Los temas estudiados se refieren sobre todo a la identificación de los diversos factores que llevan al estudiante a abandonar los estudios, incluidos los factores individuales e institucionales. Además, en consonancia con los recientes estudios de revisión sobre la deserción escolar, encontramos una falta de consenso sobre el concepto de deserción. Se espera que estos resultados puedan subsidiar nuevas investigaciones que se centren en la comprensión del fenómeno de la deserción en sus diversas dimensiones, especialmente las dirigidas a la educación profesional, haya vista las demandas relativas al mundo del trabajo que se presentan en la contemporaneidad.A evasão escolar é um problema histórico na educação brasileira. O termo evasão, na literatura, refere-se a situações diversas, como abandono da escola, saída temporária do estudante da instituição, dentre outros. No caso da Educação Profissional, observa-se uma contradição entre a expansão na oferta de vagas e a persistência dos altos índices de evasão nos cursos dessa modalidade. Esta pesquisa é parte de uma pesquisa em desenvolvimento, nível mestrado, que objetiva investigar as perspectivas de enfrentamento da evasão escolar na educação profissional de uma escola pública do Pará. Como recorte dessa pesquisa apresentamos, neste estudo, os resultados de uma revisão de literatura sobre o tema evasão escolar na educação profissional na Amazônia, a partir do levantamento bibliográfico em duas bases de dados. Os resultados evidenciaram grande variedade de pesquisas no que concerne ao nível de ensino e modalidades estudadas, mas poucos estudos centrados no contexto da Educação Profissional. As temáticas estudadas versam, em sua maioria, na identificação dos diversos fatores que levam o aluno a evadir, incluindo-se fatores individuais e institucionais. Ademais, em consonância com estudos recentes de revisão sobre a evasão escolar, constatamos a falta de consenso sobre o conceito de evasão.
