Resumo: The purpose of this study was to identify the motivational factors that contribute to job satisfaction. Hinging upon Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs Theory and Herzberg’s Two-Factor Theory, a case study of a descriptive and qualitative nature was carried out, which surveyed factors related to workplace satisfaction at the Federal University of Espírito Santo at Alegre campus. The data were obtained by means of a questionnaire sent via institutional email to the teaching and technical-administrative staff. 73 teachers and 45 technical-administrative staff members answered the questionnaire. The results allowed concluding that, in general, the servants are satisfied with: what they do, stability in the workplace, work environment, autonomy in the work sector, integration of the work team, salary plus benefits and opportunity for professional growth. The motivational factors were deemed as the main ones by the teachers whereas the hygienic factors were the most important for the administrative technicians.

Con base en la teoría de la jerarquía de necesidades de Maslow y la teoría de los dos factores de Herzberg, se realizó un estudio de caso, descriptivo y cualitativo, investigando cuales son los factores relacionados con la satisfacción de los empleados de la Universidad Federal de Espírito Santo – campus de Alegre. Los datos fueron recolectados por medio de un cuestionario enviado por correo electrónico institucional para maestros y servidores técnico-administrativos. 73 profesores y 45 técnico-administrativos respondieron el cuestionario. Los resultados mostraron que, en general, los funcionarios están satisfechos con: lo que hacen, la seguridad laboral, el ambiente de trabajo, la autonomía en el sector laboral, la integración del equipo, el salario más beneficios y las oportunidades de crecimiento profesional. Los factores motivacionales fueron indicados como los principales por los profesores, mientras los factores de higiene fueron los más importantes para los técnico-administrativos.Com o presente estudo, objetivou-se identificar os fatores motivacionais que contribuem para a satisfação no trabalho. Após leituras sobre a Teoria das Necessidades de Maslow e de Herzberg, realizou-se um estudo de caso, de natureza descritiva e qualitativa, que constituiu no levantamento dos fatores relacionados à satisfação dos servidores da Universidade Federal do Espírito Santo – Campus de Alegre. Os dados foram obtidos por meio de um questionário encaminhado via e-mail institucional aos servidores docentes e técnico-administrativos. Responderam ao questionário, 73 docentes e 45 técnico-administrativos. Os resultados obtidos permitiram concluir que, em geral, os servidores estão satisfeitos com gostar do que faz, estabilidade no emprego, ambiente de trabalho, autonomia no setor de trabalho, integração da equipe de trabalho, salário somado a benefícios e oportunidade de crescimento profissional.
