“They are born to die ": a psychosocial analysis of the problem of homicides of young people in Fortaleza

Data on the issue of urban violence involving young people make it possible to consider the scale of homicides in this segment as one of the main mechanisms of social control of impoverished and stigmatized populations and territories, becoming one of the main ethical-political challenges in the Brazilian scenario. The city of Fortaleza has worrisome indicators on the number of homicides involving juvenile segments, presenting the highest rate of homicides in adolescence (IHA) among the Brazilian capitals. Therefore, the purpose of this article is to problematize the phenomenon of juvenile homicides in the city of Fortaleza from the psychosocial point of view, taking it as an analyzer of the implications of the power relations and the contemporary modes of subjectivation in the daily life of Brazilian urban margins . The problematization will be developed in the dialogues of Social Psychology with authors like Foucault, Deleuze, Guattari and Agamben. The processes of subjection of poor young people in Brazil are analyzed because of their association with risk and violence, as well as the psychosocial processes that produce young people who are "unworthy of life" and that are called "involved".
