Resumo: Objective: to correlate the resilience and functional capacity of the elderly people with diabetes mellitus. Methods: this is an exploratory, descriptive and cross-sectional study, conducted with 96 elderly patients hospitalized for complications of diabetes mellitus in a university hospital. Data collection was performed through an interview, using a semi-structured instrument called the Resilience Scale and the Barthel Index. Results: most of the elderly people had moderate resilience (57.3%) and functional dependence (85.4%), with a mild (30.2%) and moderate (26.0%) prevalence. A positive correlation was observed with statistical significance between resilience and functional capacity, so the increase of one variable is correlated with the elevation of the other. Conclusion: when correlating resilience with the functional capacity of the elderly person, a positive and proportional relationship was observed between these variables highlighting the functional capacity as an important instrument for the development of resilience in the elderly person with diabetes.

Universidade Federal do Ceará2018-08-16info:eu-repo/semantics/articleinfo:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersionEstudo transversalapplication/pdfapplication/pdfhttp://periodicos.ufc.br/rene/article/view/3338310.15253/2175-6783.2018193323Rev Rene; Vol 19 (2018): Rev Rene; e3323Rev Rene; v. 19 (2018): Rev Rene; e33232175-67831517-3852reponame:Rev Rene (Online)instname:Universidade Federal do Ceará (UFC)instacron:UFCengporhttp://periodicos.ufc.br/rene/article/view/33383/pdfhttp://periodicos.ufc.br/rene/article/view/33383/pdf_1Copyright (c) 2018 Rev Renehttps://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc/4.0info:eu-repo/semantics/openAccessFrazão, Maria Cristina Lins OliveiraPimenta, Cláudia Jeane LopesSilva, Cleane Rosa Ribeiro daVicente, Mateus CarneiroCosta, Tatiana Ferreira daCosta, Kátia Neyla de Freitas Macedo2020-05-28T15:35:25Zoai:periodicos.ufc:article/33383Revistahttp://periodicos.ufc.br/renePUBhttp://periodicos.ufc.br/rene/oairene@ufc.br||2175-67831517-3852opendoar:2020-05-28T15:35:25Rev Rene (Online) - Universidade Federal do Ceará (UFC)false
