Preparation for the care of children with chronic diseases: the perception of caregivers

Resumo: Objective: to describe the caregivers' perception of preparation to care for children with chronic diseases. Methods: qualitative research, carried out with nine caregivers in a home transition unit in a tertiary hospital. Semi-structured interviews were used to obtain the data, and the content analysis technique was used to describe the results. Results: with the qualitative material analysis process, the main perceptions of the reported care were obtained: Knowing the Care Unit; Training, learning and guidance and Difficulties faced. Conclusion: the preparation for the care of children with chronic diseases is complex and was perceived as a fundamental step towards leaving hospital, requiring from these caregivers donation and effort to face this process.

Métodos: pesquisa de campo descritiva com abordagem qualitativa, realizada com nove cuidadores em uma unidade de transição domiciliar em um hospital terciário do Ceará. Utilizou-se uma entrevista semiestruturada para obtenção dos dados e a técnica de Análise de Conteúdo para descrição dos resultados. O trabalho atendeu aos preceitos éticos através do parecer nº 3.501.127. Resultados: Com o processo de análise do material qualitativo, obteve-se as categorias temáticas: Percepção sobre a unidade de cuidados; Treinamento, aprendizagem e orientações e Dificuldades enfrentadas. Conclusão: infere-se que a preparação para os cuidados a crianças crônicas é complexa e exige desses cuidadores doação, empenho e disposição para enfrentar tal situação.
