Resumo: | Objective: to analyze the practice of disinfection of finger oximeters by nursing professionals. Methods: a quantitative, descriptive, and cross-sectional study with nine professionals in a hospital clinical unit. Eighteen swab samples were collected, internally and externally from each equipment, isolating 51 bacterial colonies for antimicrobial susceptibility testing. Results: the professionals were not trained to disinfect the equipment. Eight carried the oximeters in their lab coats, and one carried them on a tray. They rarely disinfected the inside of the device fearing the 70% ethyl alcohol would damage the sensor. In 17 samples, different bacterial genera grew. 17.7% were multidrug-resistant to antimicrobials. Conclusion: it was observed that Nursing professionals don’t disinfect finger oximeters correctly. The use of 70% isopropyl alcohol is recommended to disinfect the sensors, since it doesn’t damage the equipment, and 70% ethyl alcohol to sanitize the patients’ fingers before and after the tests. |

Universidade Federal do Ceará2021-04-19info:eu-repo/semantics/articleinfo:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersionapplication/pdfapplication/pdfhttp://periodicos.ufc.br/rene/article/view/6122210.15253/2175-6783.20212261222Rev Rene; Vol 22 (2021): Rev Rene; e61222Rev Rene; v. 22 (2021): Rev Rene; e612222175-67831517-3852reponame:Rev Rene (Online)instname:Universidade Federal do Ceará (UFC)instacron:UFCporenghttp://periodicos.ufc.br/rene/article/view/61222/196696http://periodicos.ufc.br/rene/article/view/61222/196697Copyright (c) 2021 Rev Renehttps://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0info:eu-repo/semantics/openAccessKorb, ArnildoSilveira, Anelise de Matos2021-05-03T15:08:21Zoai:periodicos.ufc:article/61222Revistahttp://periodicos.ufc.br/renePUBhttp://periodicos.ufc.br/rene/oairene@ufc.br||2175-67831517-3852opendoar:2021-05-03T15:08:21Rev Rene (Online) - Universidade Federal do Ceará (UFC)false |
