Resumo: This article is intended to show that, in Husserl’s account, the intentionality of consciousness is constituted as a ‘subject x object’ relation. Husserl recognized the ‘ego’ as the first absolute truth, nonetheless, unlike Descartes, Husserl conceived it is as a reality directed to an object. Therefore, intentionality represents the directedness of consciousness towards an object. It will be claimed that Husserl deemed possible the return to the seminal intuition of the phenomena, so as to grasp – based on the synthetic capacity of consciousness – how it relates both to the subject and to the object, and how experienced states are connected.

Isso nos revela que Husserl, mesmo reconhecendo o eu cartesiano como a primeira verdade apodítica, rejeita o modo como Descartes o concebeu, porque a consciência é sempre de algum objeto e os objetos só têm sentido para uma consciência. A intencionalidade representa esse direcionamento que a consciência tem em relação ao objeto. Para percebermos esta relação, devemos retornar às intuições originárias, isto é, ao modo como os fenômenos nos aparecem. Ora, os fenômenos possuem uma multiplicidade de aspectos; no entanto, aparecem na consciência como uma unidade idêntica a si mesma, pois a consciência tem a capacidade de ligar os aspectos ou estados vividos a outros por meio da síntese.
