Sociology and Higher Education: some theoretical and methodological reflections.

Resumo: This article exposes and discusses sociological accesses to the higher education topic, taking the contributions of Michael Burawoy to the construction of typifications to sociology. Through these categorizations and through analysis of their forms, we present here possible ways to a theoretical treatment of higher education, validating approaches of sociology, as a representative of social sciences. Thus, the text seeks to undertake a conceptual summary, allowing the constructions of work objects and thematic surveys within the larger universe of relationships – taking into consideration the scenery of intense educational changes and practical forms of the university in Brazil. The relevance of a public sociology and its complementary counterparts is taken as an emerging instrument or work tool, result of theoretical advances in the recognition of social research of sociological basis.
