Resumo: | Diabetes Mellitus has multiple etiology, and is caused by lack of insulin and/or inability to properly exercise their insulin effects and has great relevance due to the growing prevalence, being among the top ten root causes of mortality in the country. There is consistent evidence of beneficial effects of aerobic exercise on DM2: improves glycemic control, reduction in glycated hemoglobin, decreased cardiovascular risk; contribution to the program of weight reduction, however, are still recent research on the effects of resistance training in patients with this disease. Given the great importance of physical exercise to patients with diabetes mellitus This work had as objective verify the acute and chronic effect of a program of resistance training on glycemic control in diabetic type 2. The Group was composed of 5 sedentary volunteers, with an average age of 59.6 ± 5.85 years, no smoking, no drinking and to not show lesions in organs or complications arising from diabetes targets. The program of resistance training had a duration of 10 weeks and was carried out with a weekly frequency of three times on non-consecutive days, with sessions with an average duration of 60 minutes. Data was collected for Anthropometrical variables (weight, height, body mass index, skin folds and body fat percentage) and Biochemistry (glycated haemoglobin) before and after 10 weeks of intervention. Capillary glycaemia was checked before and after one of the weekly sessions of resistance training with moderate intensity with the aim to evaluate the acute effect of training on glycemic control. No significant difference was found in the IMC, however the percentage of fat reduced significantly after 10 weeks. As for capillary blood glucose, statistically significant reduction was observed after a session. There was also a significant reduction in the levels of glycated hemoglobin concentration, a result of the chronic effect of resistance training. From the results obtained, it can be concluded that the resistance training is an efficient tool for glycemic control effect of diabetic type 2. |
