Resumo: The biotechnology sector from Minas Gerais state has been presenting satisfactory performance, with adequate level of quality and competitiveness. We should draw our attention to the cluster formed by companies in the Belo Horizonte and Montes Claros areas. The companies of human diagnostic of cluster have been presenting a considerable growth, besides searching the capacity to compete in the markets where they act. In this direction, the analysis of efficiency of the companies of human diagnostic found in the Minas Gerais cluster is of great importance. The aim of this work was to calculate measures of relative efficiency for companies of the segment of human diagnoses, using the non parametrical technique known as analysis envelopment of data, using a sample of eight companies. The calculation of measures of relative efficiency has been used to measure the position that a company occupies in a determined group. Taking as reference the efficient companies, the possible reduction that could be made in the use of the source were calculated, on the inefficient companies, without compromising its volume of production. The work allowed us to conclude that 37.5% of the analyzed companies were considered inefficient and that the reduction in the use of sources is in the range of 2%, with prominence for the item operational expenditures and energy. From the comparison of the efficient and inefficient companies, according to some indicators of technical and economical performance, differences can be perceived between these two groups of companies. In the present circumstances of extreme competition, any saving achieved may mean the survival of the company in the market.

In the present circumstances of extreme competition, any saving achieved may mean the survival of the company in the market.O setor mineiro de biotecnologia vem apresentando desempenho satisfatório, com níveis adequados de qualidade e competitividade.
