A tipografia como manifestação cultural

Resumo: | This work analyzes the typography and the cultural manners as times have perceived it, not only as a system producing series of texts, but the purposes ascribed to the aesthetics of the characters and the compositions. It highlights the dynamic nature of the construction of meanings that interact with men beyond mechanical operations and verbal representations. It also reflects the ordering marks in the typographic symbolisms, expressed in their cultural regimes of information. Dealing with this informational complexity is the main objective of this research carried out in the master's degree of Information Science at Federal University of Ceará. It relies on the social epistemology of the field to understand typography in a way not restricted to physical and cognitive dimensions, but as a complex and relatable phenomenon to socially constructed ordinations and meanings. For that, it uses anthropological and hermeneutical assumptions which have been used by this field to update its object of study, which are the notions of cultural mediation, neodocumentation and information regime. As an empirical experiment, we opted to analyze the graphic design of the special notebooks produced by the Ceará newspaper O Povo and the winners of the Esso Journalism Award in the category of graphic creation for the newspaper Planeta seca (2012) and Sertão a ferro e fogo (2014). These are thematic and investigative journalistic productions linked to the imaginary of the northeastern backlands. These documents and their typographic symbolisms were interpreted by the bias of their production process and by the professionals who sign their content, using the hermeneutic-dialectical method and the interview and participant observation techniques. This study of exploratory, qualitative and documentary nature made it possible to understand the objects as infocommunicational phenomena resulting from social practices operated in the newspaper environment. Thus, they become dynamic codes of interaction, in which mediators play an active role in constructing unusual readings, hybrid narratives that relate to a diversity of contexts and identities. In addition, its production process marks and at the same time conditions the communication team and enterprise, which are now publicly recognized for this type of relationship with information. It is concluded that these special notebooks and their typographies integrate complex cultural and informational categories, by which they become illustrative phenomena for the social paradigm of Information Science. This finding favors the line of contemporary research in this field and its interdisciplinary tradition. |

Realça a natureza dinâmica da construção de significados que interagem com o homem para além das operações mecânicas e das representações verbais. Reflete também as marcas ordenadoras nos simbolismos tipográficos, expressas em seus regimes culturais de informação. Tratar dessa complexidade informacional é o objetivo central desta pesquisa realizada no mestrado em Ciência da Informação da Universidade Federal do Ceará. Ela se ampara na epistemologia social do campo para compreender a tipografia de modo não restrito às dimensões física e cognitiva, mas como fenômeno complexo e relacionável às ordenações e significações socialmente construídas. Para tanto, utiliza-se de pressupostos antropológicos e hermenêuticos aos quais a área tem se valido para atualizar seu objeto de estudo, que são as noções de mediação cultural, de neodocumentação e de regime de informação. Como experiência empírica, optou-se por analisar o projeto gráfico dos cadernos especiais produzidos pelo jornal cearense O Povo e vencedores do Prêmio Esso de Jornalismo na categoria de criação gráfica para jornal: Planeta seca (2012) e Sertão a ferro e fogo (2014). Trata-se de produções temáticas e de cunho jornalístico investigativo ligado ao imaginário do sertão nordestino. Esses documentos e seus simbolismos tipográficos foram interpretados pelo viés de seu processo de produção e dos profissionais que assinam seu conteúdo, utilizando-se do método hermenêutico-dialético e das técnicas de entrevista e de observação participante. O estudo de natureza exploratória, qualitativa e documental possibilitou compreender os objetos como fenômenos infocomunicacionais resultantes das práticas sociais operadas no ambiente do jornal. Com isso, tornam-se códigos dinâmicos de interação, em que os mediadores exercem papel ativo na construção de leituras não usuais, narrativas híbridas que relacionam contextos e identidades diversas. Além disso, seu processo de produção marca e condiciona a equipe e a empresa de comunicação, que passam a ser reconhecidas publicamente por esse tipo de relação com a informação. Conclui-se que esses cadernos especiais e suas tipografias integram categorias culturais e informacionais complexas, maneira pela qual se tornam fenômenos ilustrativos para o paradigma social da Ciência da Informação.
