For a long time, the exploitation of natural resources was justified to meet society's production and consumption demands. From the middle of the last century, the concept of sustainable development began to be disseminated and, among the alternatives as a means of achieving this sustainable development, the Shared Economy emerged. The sharing of goods and services between people is the main characteristic of this type of business, which seeks to balance economic growth with environmental and social sustainability. In order to understand the consumer behavior of this type of business, a survey was carried out during the month of March 2021 and collected the main ways of using the services shared by the population of Fortaleza / CE. Therefore, it can be extracted that the main motivation for using this type of initiative is due to the economic benefits and that there is still potential for growth for the different types of shared services. Finally, we sought to better understand the main impacts of this modality, in addition to its main advantages and disadvantages, concluding that the Shared Economy is, in fact, an alternative to reach sustainable development.
