The present work analyzes the relevance of the social and the physical capital in the strategy of reduction of vulnerabilities and in the adaptation of communities to the recurrent vulnerability of periodic climatic variations. For this, an index was created, in order to show the importance of the social capital in the reduction of the vulnerability, as well as the relative weight of the physical capital and the social capital in the researched communities. The results show the relevance of differentiated endowment of social and physical capital in the reduction of the vulnerability in two communities. Lesser vulnerability in the Corrego de Areia community was verified, when compared with the Corrego do Feijao community.
