Déficit no autocuidado para se vestir de mulheres mastectomizadas

Objective: to investigate the nursing diagnosis “Self-care deficit in dressing of mastectomized women”. Method: this is a cross-sectional study, conducted with 55 women undergoing antineoplastic treatment in October and November 2011. We analyzed variables with “yes” and “no” answers by z test for proportions; associations between surgery type and defining characteristics by c2 test; normality of variables using the Kolmogorov-Smirnov test; and group mean values by the Mann-Whitney test. The study was approved by the Research Ethics Committee of Universidade de Fortaleza (Unifor), under the CAAE 0327.0.037.000-11. Results: the nursing diagnosis concerned was identified in 92.7% of women. The mean duration of surgery was lower in women with the ability to take off and close their clothes than in those without these defining characteristics (p = 0.046 and p = 0.036, respectively). There was no association between these characteristics and right or left mastectomy (p > 0.005). Conclusion: data suggest that the nurse involves the preparation of a partner, relative, or caregiver to support in “dressing up”.
