Resumo: Climate change may lead to abiotic stress conditions affecting agricultural production and natural vegetation of distinct ecosystems, especially in the Caatinga region due to the negative effect of increased salinity and temperature. As a result, the present work had as objective to evaluate the germination and initial growth of Cactaceae Cereus jamacaru and Melocactus zehntneri, as a way of studying the dynamics of Cactaceae under thermal and saline stresses. The experiment was conducted on B.O.D. in the UFC's Seed Laboratory. Their assembly was done in a subdivided plot, in the space, with treatments formed by the arrangement of the salt concentrations, with dilution of Sodium Chloride (NaCl) at concentrations 0 (distilled water) (C0), 5 (C1), 10 (C2), 15 (C3) and 20 (C4) dS.m-1, and temperature of 30 ° C and 35 ° C, with effect analyzed separately in the two species of cacti. The analyzed variables were germination, germination speed index, shoot length, root length and area, and were submitted to analysis of variance and those that presented a significant difference at the 5% level, had behavior represented by a model of obtained by the TableCurve software version 5.01. The variability information of the seedlings obtained through the ImageJ software was analyzed using the Pearson correlation test, with the other variables of germination and vigor obtained. In the crown of the monk, there was no interaction between the abiotic factors. The species was more tolerant to abiotic factors, presenting a higher germination index at 35 ° C and low damage to seedling growth when submitted to salinity. In mandacaru without spines, the association of the thermal and saline abiotic stresses influenced in the germination process and initial growth of the seedlings in a negative way, obtaining better results only at temperatures of 30 ° C and CE of up to 15dS.m -1. Seedlings showed lighter shades of red and green as abiotic stresses increased.

Seedlings showed lighter shades of red and green as abiotic stresses increased.
