Eficiência dos produtores frutícolas em Petrolina: uma análise de fronteira estocástica

The objective of this study is to measure the allocative efficiency in 62 properties that grow fruit trees in the Nilo Coelho irrigated perimeter, in Petrolina, state of Pernambuco. For this, the parametric frontier stochastic method with technical inefficiency is used, using the Cobb-Douglas production function. The results of the estimation point to the irrigated area, spent on labor and inputs with statistically significant elasticities and positive sign, while total area has a negative sign. It is observed that the irrigated area and the labor expense, respectively, present higher elasticities in relation to the value of the fruit production, of 0.63% and 0.41%, in this way, it can be verified That the perimeter is intensive in irrigated area and work. With regard to water expenses, the inefficiency of the firm is reduced by around 37%. In addition, when comparing the seven near producers versus the seven distant ones of the efficient frontier, respectively, it is examined that the average efficiency is 0.78 and 0.20. Finally, it can be concluded that perimeter producers, in general, allocate their factors of production inefficiently.
