Greimas e Peirce: dois olhares para o abstrato

This project’s main objective is to find the best way to unveil the meanings present in graphic elements of abstract paintings. It is not the objective of this research to compare two theories to determine a superior one but to demonstrate how they can be used from the object of study in its procedural stage specified for each one and how they help each other during the analysis. For this, the Greimasian semiotics and the Peircean semiotics were used to analyze an abstract framework and a procedural report at different times. First, the abstract framework and its procedural report, carried out by the author herself, are presented. Then, two analyzes of the picture are made, one Peircean and one Greimasian, in which the first is based on the second. Afterward, a Greimasian analysis of the report is carried out. Subsequently, the two Greimasian analyzes are compared in search of reiterations of meaning that show the effectiveness of the union of the two theories. Finally, after performing this comparison, it will be considered how each methodology was adapted to the object, thus obtaining a record of how the two distinct theories are set together.
