Resumo: The conference attains itself to two possible bounds of approximation to Euclides da Cunha Rebellion in the backlands - Os sertões: its genesis, represented by the analysis of the text itself, as weel as of the author's writings and researches, prior to, contemporary to and after his testimonal trip to the war scenery of the Canudos Campaign; and the apocalypse, which means, the effects on the national conscience and, though foreing, the dimensions of the drama lived in Canudos, the counselor's Belo Monte, depicted in the "avening book" by Euclides da Cunha.
