This paper discusses the relevance of the academic library as a space to support teaching, research and extension activities through an event called Methodology & Scientific Production Week, idealized and organized by librarians of the reference service who work at Federal Universityof Ceará (UFC), Brazil.By describing experiences, this paper also points out the motivations to organize the SMPC and how it contributed to the academic formation of the participants mainly because relevant subjects like scientific methodology, research, production and construction of knowledge. As methodological procedures, it were used the action research, which presents the main questions to make the event possible, and the participant observation to collect data in the user service of the libraries that organized the SMPC, besides some records made in spreadsheets from statistics of daily service. In this respect, the event was planned from the main doubts brought by the library users.It is possible to conclude that the SMPC contributed positively to the improvement of the academic productions of the participants, allowing partnerships and the exchange of experiences between distinct groups, as well as making the academic library a mediator of scientific knowledge, by promoting services that go beyond shelves and catalogs and increasing the visibility of librarians as mediators and protagonists within the academic community.
