Resumo: This study aimed at analyzing the competitiveness of cut plants and flowers export toward the international market from 1998 to 2004, by using a set of tools meant to indicate the trends of the exportings. The results confirmed the competitiveness of the exporting of ornamental products facing the global market. It was observed, however, that great exporters, such as Italy, Belgium, United States, German, and France, are not always strongly competitive. The most competitive parts were Equator, The Netherlands, Colombia, and Denmark. From those. Equator presented the highest increase in competitiveness, while the others presented a decrease. Despite the fact that Brazil does not figure among the greatest exporters, it stood out as a strong competitor, with increasing exporting rates.

Os resultados mostraram competitividade das exportaçãoes do segmento no mercado internacional. Porém, grandes exportadores nem sempre são fortemente competitivos. Caso da Itália, Bélgica, Estados Unidos, Alemanha e Espanha. Os exportadores mais competitivos foram Equador, Holanda, Colômbia e Dinamarca, sendo que estes três últimos apresentaram perdas de competitividade e Equador os maiores ganhos.
