Resumo: O presente trabalho discorre sobre o uso das imagens como conteúdo no ensino de história, propondo entender o conceito base do que vem a ser iconografia e compreender em especial a fotografia como um documento gerador de discurso nos materiais didático. Procura-se mostrar e ao mesmo tempo desmistificar o papel da fotografia no livro didático apenas como uma ilustração. Tendo como base a Escola Estadual Ensino Fundamental e Médio Arruda Câmara e o Livro didático referente ao 9º ano do fundamental adotado pela instituição, buscamos analisar se a obra está adequada à proposta de currículo esboçada pela escola, verificando como as imagens foram colocadas dentro da obra por seus respectivos autores e os discursos/representações que esboçam sobre os fatos históricos. Utilizamos, para esse fim, de uma metodologia qualitativa, fazendo uso de fontes documentais (Livro didático, Fotografias e PPP).

Aims to show and at same time demystifying the role of photography in the textbook only as an illustration. Based on the state school of primary and secondary education Arruda Camara, and the Textbook related to 9th grade of primary adopted by the institution, we analyzed if the work is appropriate for the proposed curriculum outlined by the school, checking how the images were placed at the textbook by their respective authors and the discourses/representations that outline about the historical facts.
