Aspects related to the environmental issue are gaining more space and the demand for products that meet these characteristics grows among society. The search for an environmentally friendly fuel has made alcohol production in Brazil substantially increased in recent times. Being a product known to be “clean” by reducing the emission of gases in the atmosphere, alcohol uses sugarcane as the main product for its production. The purpose of this report is a research about the reality of the sugarcane sector in the municipality of Mamanguape - PB, about the environmental and social impacts caused by sugarcane plantations in this region. Regarding the methodology used, an exploratory, descriptive and qualitative research was carried out, consisting of a theoretical foundation on the subject and a field research, developed through on-site observation and interviews, where it was possible to observe the impacts caused monoculture in this region. The main results of this research identified the neglect with which the population and vegetation of the region are treated, through the study of the themes: population, ecosystems, air pollution, among others. The realization that we have seen from concrete actions of the sugarcane industry in this region is that there is no environmental management to minimize the effects of its activities and often do not act in the margin of compliance with environmental laws.
