Analysis of the maturity level of the product development process: a case study in a footwear company

Resumo: The competitiveness of the footwear industry in recent decades has required companies to capture and respond to market signals. In this context the management of the Product Development Process (PDP) becomes a strategic factor. The maturity models appear as a tool to support the management of the PDP in the search for process improvement. This paper searches through the accomplishment of a case study, an analysis of the level of maturity of the PDP of a footwear company located in Vale dos Sinos in Rio Grande do Sul, through the approaches of Capability Maturity Model Integration, CMMI and the Unified Model of Rozenfeld et al. (2006). Although there was a need for adaptations, the results demonstrate the effectiveness of the models in the identification of opportunities for improvement in the shoe PDP.

Os padrões de competitividade da indústria calçadista nas últimas décadas têm exigido mais das empresas a capacidade de captar e responder aos sinais do mercado. Neste contexto a gestão do Processo de Desenvolvimento de Produtos (PDP) torna-se um fator estratégico. Os modelos de maturidade surgem como uma ferramenta de auxílio à gestão do PDP na busca da melhoria do processo. A presente pesquisa buscou através da realização de um estudo de caso, a análise do nível de maturidade do PDP de uma empresa de calçados localizada no Vale dos Sinos no Rio Grande do Sul, através das abordagens do Capability Maturity Model Integration, CMMI, Modelo de Capacidade e Maturidade Integrado, e do Modelo Unificado de Rozenfeld et al. (2006). Os resultados demonstram a efetividade dos modelos na identificação de oportunidades de melhorias no PDP de calçados da empresa alvo do estudo.Los estándares de competitividad de la industria del calzado en las últimas décadas han exigido más a las empresas la capacidad de captar y responder a las señales del mercado. En este contexto, la gestión del Proceso de Desarrollo de Producto (PDP) se convierte en un factor estratégico. Los modelos de madurez surgen como una herramienta de ayuda a la gestión del PDP en la búsqueda de la mejora de los procesos. La presente investigación buscó, a través de la realización de un estudio de caso, el análisis del nivel de madurez PDP de una empresa de calzados ubicada en Vale dos Sinos en Rio Grande do Sul, a través de los enfoques del Capability Maturity Model Integration, CMMI, Model of Integrated Capacidad y Madurez, y el Modelo Unificado por Rozenfeld et al. (2006).
