A partir da leitura intersemiótica e de revisão bibliográfica, estudamos a narrativa do conto “A máscara da Morte Vermelha” (1842), de Edgar Allan Poe, e da adaptação dele para o cinema, o filme “A Orgia da Morte” (The Masque of the Red Death) (1964), dirigido por Roger Corman, objetivando compreender o papel das cores nessas obras. Trata-se de uma história centrada quando uma peste dizima a população ao mesmo tempo em que um grupo de nobres, sob a pretensa égide do príncipe Próspero, tenta evitar a praga escondendo-se em sua abadia. A maneira como Poe enfatiza as cores como características singulares de diferentes cômodos da propriedade do príncipe confere à narrativa sentidos variados, o que pode ser percebido na releitura do conto que ora analisamos, que carrega o potencial simbólico dessa escolha do escritor, abordagem essa que é postulada por estudos outros sobre o título. Contos de terror americanos.   FROM TEXT TO SCREEN, COLOR CHART AND MEANINGS IN “THE MASQUE OF THE RED DEATH” ABSTRACT: Using an intersemiotic reading of the narrative short story “The Mask of the Red Death” (1842), by Edgar Allan Poe, and its adaptation for the cinema, the film “The Masque of the Red Death” (1964), directed by Roger Corman; we aim to understand the role played by colors in these works. “The Mask of the Red Death” is a story centered on a plague that decimates the population while a group of nobles, under the alleged aegis of Prince Prospero, tries to avoid the plague by hiding in his abbey. The way in which Poe emphasizes colors as unique characteristics of different rooms in the prince’s Prospero gives the narrative varied meanings, which can be seen in the rereading of the tale that we are now analysing, thus it carries the symbolic potential of the writer’s choice, an approach that is postulated by other studies on the short story.
