Resumo: | This article aims to understand how the verb-image encapsulation present in the cartoon genre acts in the argumentative orientation of the text. For this, we make a convergence between the theoretical contribution of referencing with the Grammar of Visual Design. In the meantime, we developed a study with a qualitative and interpretive approach, which we analyzed how referencing, specifically the process of verb-image encapsulation, acts in the construction of argumentation in the cartoon genre, considering the semiotic portions that constitute the text. To base the study, we found theoretical support in the studies of Ramos (2012); Cavalcante and Brito (2020); Lima (2017); Santana (2019) and among others. We observed that similar to what happens with encapsulation in the written verbal text through encapsulating expressions, this phenomenon also occurs in the verbal-imagery text. We add that regarding encapsulation in the verb-image text, it is necessary to take into account knowledge of the world and contextual memory, as we understand that encapsulating expressions not only encapsulate the element on the surface of the text, but also summarize implicit information retrieved cognitively through context and inferences from the images introduced in the text. |
