TEACHING PRACTICE OF PORTUGUESE AS A FOREIGN LANGUAGE: A PRAGMATIC APPROACH IN TEACHING PROSODY

This paper aims to contribute to the discussions in the area of teaching Portuguese as a Foreign Language (PFL) by highlighting the relevance of incorporating practices that conceive of prosody as a component of cultural insertion. In the process of learning a foreign language, it is noticed that prosodic characteristics of the first language are used, without considering the cultural differences in the expression of social affections that may interfere in the composition of the positive face. Based on the evidence that the prosody space in PFL textbooks is non-existent, although the literature reinforces the importance of this content for the teaching of the area, an activity guide is proposed here, based on the Theory of Acts of Speech and prosodic description of directive speech acts in Portuguese. The foundation is to use descriptors of the contextual aspects involved in the enunciation and to demonstrate the way in which they articulate with the prosodic clues for meaning. The corpus to be used for this purpose is composed of videos available on YouTube ™. This material is expected to be used by PFL teachers and to contribute to a better performance of foreign students who wish to communicate in Portuguese.
