O intérprete educacional: um assunto comunitário?

In this article, which is a section of a research entitled “Cosmopolitan Educational Interpreter: heterotopic practices in the relationship with the deaf”, we problematize how the term community adjectivizing translation/interpretation develops possibilities of understanding in the relations between the Educational Interpreter (EI) and the deaf community. We interviewed EI from Espírito Santo State to talk about their trajectories, their work as professionals, and the ways they have developed to somehow have a relationship with the community. We also dialogued with deaf individuals considered references in the deaf community of Espírito Santo to discuss how they understand this professional in the community and how their relationship is with him/her. For this analysis, we work with the notions of community, stranger and community subject in Zygmunt Bauman, Alphonso Lingis and Gert Biesta. We start from the hypothesis that the relationship between IE and the deaf community creates effects that place him/her in other flows when his/her performance as a professional is placed as a community subject even though it is institutionalized.
