Resumo: This paper aims to describe and analyze the phenomena of alternation of the pronouns nós/a gente and the application of the verbal agreement of the first person plural in the speech of residents of the countryside of Santa Leopoldina. Also aims to establish a comparison between the linguistic behavior of leopoldinenses and capixaba residents of Vitória/ES (MENDONÇA, 2010; BENFICA, 2013). Therefore, we adopt as theoretical perspective Variational Sociolinguistics, which is based on real usage of the language, assuming that the variation and change, inherent to the system, are influenced by linguistic and social factors. The corpus consists of thirty-two typically labovian interviews (LABOV, 2008) and, for the quantification of the data, we used the program GoldVarbX (SANKOFF; TAGLIAMONTE; SMITH, 2005). The observed social factors were the gender/sex, age and educational level of the speakers. Regarding to linguistic factors, were analyzed the explicitness of the subject, the parallelism, the referentiality, the syntactic function, the verbal tense and phonic salience. It was also considered, in this study, the variable stylistic interaction with the interviewer. The results show that the substitution of nós by a gente in Santa Leopoldina seems to occur at a slower pace than seen in Vitória, since the frequency of use of the innovative form is only 53,9%, while in Vitória the rate reaches 70,8%. , It is noteworthy, among social variables observed, the role of age, which shows diverse results not only in Vitória, but also from other brazilian regions, such as Rio de Janeiro/RJ (OMENA, 1986), Curitiba/PR (TAMANINE, 2010), Iboruna/SP (RUBIO, 2012) and Goiás/GO (MATTOS, 2013): in these places, young people are the ones who make the most usage of a gente, whereas, between the leopoldinenses, the only age group favoring this innovative form is the one from 26 to 49 years old. In relation to the absence of concordance, which seems to be a trademark of rural variety, also are the youngest those who favor more. In what concerns the linguistic variable, the study highlights the role of the verbal tense: there is the specialization of -mos morpheme as a mark of past past perfect and this is the only time when there is variation of concordance. The stylistic variable also presents significant results, with the use of nós and the erasure of concordance favored when they interact with those who are closest to the community, that is, with the interviewer that is native of the city.
