Abstract:In this article the revolving door phenomenon is discussed. It is characterized by recurrent psychiatric hospitalizations, within a short space of time between admissions and thus a challenge to Psychiatric Reform. This research aims to acknowledge and identify the profile of revolving door patients in mental health at Jurujuba´s Psychiatric Hospital (HPJ), located in Niterói, RJ, in the period from July/2008 to June/2011. The research was developed in two steps: a quantitative analysis of data from medical records of HPJ´s patients and a qualitative study of three cases through interviews with users, their families and health professionals. The results showed that the persistence of the revolving door phenomenon is associated with poor solutions to services in mental health, the fragility of social networks to support the user and misconceptions that cross the construction of a care guiver clinic. Keywords: Mental health, psychiatric hospitalizations, Psychiatric Reform. |
