Analysis categories for YouTube music videos: understanding the production and consumption of game music covers on the internet

Resumo: | The objective of the article is to present a category-based analysis of game music cover videos produced and consumed by fans on YouTube. To deal with data produced in ethnographic field research, we have created four categories of artistic performance that attempt to synthesize the production of game music shared by the interlocutors. In this article, we will explain these categories and demonstrate their functioning as an analysis tool while exploring some issues related to social and musical performance. These categories have shown that game music functions as a catalyst through which other cultural practices flow, bringing with them their potential for sociability, conflict, and prejudice. |

Con el fin de lidiar con datos producidos en una investigación de campo de carácter etnográfico, creamos cuatro categorías de performance artística que intentan sintetizar la producción de game music compartida por los interlocutores. En este artículo, explicaremos estas categorías y demostraremos su funcionamiento como herramienta de análisis mientras exploramos algunas cuestiones relacionadas con la performance social y musical. Estas categorías han demostrado que la game music funciona como un catalizador a través del cual otras prácticas culturales fluyen, trayendo consigo sus potenciales de sociabilidad, así como de conflicto y prejuicio.O objetivo do artigo é apresentar uma análise baseada em categorias sobre vídeos de cover de game music produzidos e consumidos por fãs no YouTube. Com o objetivo de lidar com dados produzidos em pesquisa de campo de caráter etnográfico, criamos quatro categorias de performance artística que tentam sintetizar a produção de game music compartilhada pelos interlocutores. Neste artigo, iremos explicar essas categorias e demonstrar seu funcionamento como ferramenta de análise enquanto exploramos algumas questões relacionadas a performance social e musical.
