This is a study of the narrative art and the historical and cultural role of the narrator today and always. Seeking mainstay theoretical writers like Walter Benjamin, Gaston Bachelard, Ecléa Bosi, Italo Calvino, Maurice Halbwachs and Luis Chamber Krab, the study aims to examine the relationship between memory and reconstruction of the past, oral literature, folk tales and writing, the narrator, the listener, reverie and poetic imagination. It is intended to transcribe and compare the theme of tales present in Brazilian oral tradition, and define the concept of retelling, which relate to adapt the story for the oral form and performance counter. There is an emphasis on the analysis of language arts dedicated to children within the music and art of storytelling, using material from the oral tradition as a source for creating. One such source is Mr. Pedro Menezes, no literate person and creator of hundreds of stories and poems that dwell in his memory, his stories were integrated into my own journey these 36 years profession in the art of singing and storytelling. In conclusion I propose a reflection on the meaning and relevance of some contemporary spaces where the practice of listening, singing and telling stories, subsists in full dawn of the third millennium
