Resumo: | In this article, we analyze how memes from the “Pai do Pingu” page on Facebook can be used to study linguistic variation in Portuguese language classes. Using a typical language from Ceará adapted to the dynamic and diverse context of the Internet, memes in a fixed image style with captions are posted on this virtual page for linguistic reflection in the spirit of the pedagogy of linguistic variation. The results show variations at the different levels (morphophonemic; morphosyntactic; discursive, semantic and lexical) of the linguistic system, with two occurrences of importance: the weakening of fricatives represented by the letter “r” in the memes (phonetic-phonological variation) and the non-marking of the agreement with the plural noun (morphological and syntactic variation). This conclusion, combined with the proposal of a pedagogical intervention (development of linguistic, epilinguistic and metalinguistic activities involving memes), confirms that they have the potential to be used as tools for reflection on language and its variations. |
