Digital platforms and uberization: the globalization of a managed South?

Resumo: The article discusses platform work based on the definition of uberization. This definition is understood as global trend that establishes new forms of work organization, management and control. The novelty catalysed by digital platforms refers to an algorithmic management which can be understood as a new form of control that operates in extracting and processing data from the multitude of workers, informed by the possibility of full mapping the work process. The work of cosmetic sellers is brought to the analysis in order to present typically feminine characteristics of work that are becoming generalized; also the results of empirical research with motorcycle couriers and their uberisation in the city of São Paulo are discussed.

Esta é compreendida como uma nova forma de organização, gerenciamento e controle do trabalho, que se firma como uma tendência global.  A novidade catalisada pelas plataformas digitais se refere à um gerenciamento algorítmico que precisa ser mais bem compreendido e analisado É possível perscrutar uma nova forma de controle, que opera na extração e processamento de dados da multidão de trabalhadores, que são então utilizados como meios novos e pouco conhecidos para o gerenciamento do trabalho, informados pela possibilidade de um pleno mapeamento do processo de trabalho (Zuboff, 2018).
