Resumo: Antonio Gramsci and Mikhail Bakhtin developed very similar theories about the relationship between language, ideology and hegemony. After a discussion on the concepts of power, discourse and ideology according to some 19th- and 20thcentury theorists, this paper will analyse Gramsci’s concept of hegemony and Bakhtin’s concepts of heteroglossia and dialogism. The analysis demonstrates that both thinkers held analogous views on language and subjectivity, which are shown to be open and dynamic, offering the possibility to challenge and resist dominant power structures and discourses.

Através da análise dos conceitos de heteroglossia e dialogismo em Bakhtin e hegemonia em Gramsci, pode-se concluir que as visões de linguagem e subjetividade de ambos os pensadores são convergentes.
