Resumo: Caliban, Ariel and Prospero (Shakespeare’s characters) play an allegorical role in Brazilian, Latin American and African literatures, as well as in their critical production. This essay considers those literary allegories as “phantasmagories” of culture, linked to literary creation and power relations.
