Resumo: This paper aims to reflect on two possible senses of the concept of “language of painting”, a keynotion for the critical discourse on the visual arts in the 20th century. The contrast between two visions of language: the structuralist and the Wittegensteinian offers an opportunity to ask about the possible operational character of the one and/or the other inside the domain of the reflection on painting.
