Resumo: The aim of this study is to discuss the importance assumed by the medicalization of life nowadays. After a brief survey about violence approach in main aspects of psychopathology, we underline the consequences of the operation of classification systems, promoted especially by the DSM in two aspects: degradation of the  diagnostic for a formal lifting of the symptoms and the historical accentuation on the correlation between psychopathy and crime. It is understood that violence is intrinsic and structural to human beings. When defining violence as pathology, it is not possible  admit any response of the subject about his act and a possible punishment, understood as necessary for the recognition of a device for social support and culture.
