Resumo: The analysis of gender issues represents one of the central topics in the debate around equality. The consolidation of democracy has been carried out in with the adoption of policies to promote equality in politics. Through this study we intend to analyze the gender issue in the exercise of ministerial positions in the constitutional governments of the 3rd republic (Portugal), using a conceptual and empirical perspective, analyzing the different parameters of women`s participation in political life. Through a mixed approach (qualitative and quantitative), we seek to analyze the composition of constitutional governments considering the gender issue, as well to contribute to the study of the equality policies in Portugal.

La consolidación de la democracia se ha realizado en conjunto con el fortalecimiento de políticas que promueven la igualdad en la actividad política. Através de este trabajo pretendemos analizar la cuestión de género en el ejercicio de cargos ministeriales en los gobiernos constitucionales de la 3ª república (Portugal), desde una perspectiva conceptual y empírica, analizando los diferentes parámetros de participación de las mujeres en la vida política. Através de un enfoque mixto, se analiza la estructura de la composición de los gobiernos nacionales, además de contribuir al estudio de las políticas de igualdad en Portugal.A análise das questões de género representa um dos tópicos centrais no debate em torno da igualdade. A consolidação da democracia tem sido efetuada em conjugação com o reforço das políticas promotoras da igualdade na atividade política. Através do presente estudo pretende-se analisar a questão de género no exercício de cargos ministeriais nos governos constitucionais da 3ª república (Portugal), recorrendo-se a uma perspetiva concetual e empírica, de análise dos diversos parâmetros de participação das mulheres na vida política.
