Resumo: The concept of “new man” of the Estado Novo fomented much of Portu­guese Colonial Literature, promoted by the contests of the General Agency of the Colonies (1926-1974). The narrative The spell of the Empire, in its dual form (film and novel), did not escape the rule, however, has proposed various forms of paradigms of masculinity in order to serve the Portuguese Colonial Empire.
