Resumo: At the end of the 20th century, the arrival of the new millennium created a fertile field for prophecies, predictions and conjectures about the future. In this scenario, in the midst of all types of futurologists, some intellectuals came forward, seeking to trace safer and more reliable paths for the future. In this sense, our article analyzes three intellectuals (Umberto Eco, Jacques Attali and Eric Hobsbawm) who, at that moment, made public their projections about the future. Our objective is to show how, within these forecasting exercises, “yesterday”, “today” and “tomorrow” were articulated in a kind of plot in which the future would be the culmination point of the past and the present.
