Racism and Archive: Questions for the Theory of History

Resumo: The essay proposes a dialogue with contemporary debates that face the relations between historical knowledge, racism, and the archive, especially by reading Achille Mbembe, Grada Kilomba, and Saidya Hartmann, concluding its journey with Lélia Gonzales. By placing the link between the archive and epistemic oppression at the center of the discussion, we pay attention to authors who have dedicated themselves to investigating the relationship between Modernity and racism. They regard the archive as a limitation for the plurality of manifestations of human life. Consequently, based on the breadth of references, we begin to problematize historiographical work in its modern facet and limitations.

Ao colocar no centro da discussão especialmente a vinculação entre arquivo e opressão epistêmica, pretendemos destacar como autores que se debruçaram a indagar a relação entre Modernidade e racismo perceberam o arquivo como uma limitação para a pluralidade de manifestações da vida humana.
