Therapeutic practices in the informal net with emphasis on mental health:caregiver’s histories

Resumo: The growth of non-allopathic therapeutic practices in mental health is a differentiated way to take care of people suffering from mental disorder, since the official services of health not yet are enough to guarantee an attendance adjusted in this area. In this study, we objectify to know the caregivers’ histories of the informal health net that use non-allopathic practices in the mental health care. We use, for this, the method of oral history theme. Nine caregivers that work in the Women’s Holistic Center - AFYA, in the city of João Pessoa - PB, had been interviewed in the period between May and August of 2007. Amongst the main results, we observed that some of caretakers came to these practices due the lived deeply sufferings and to the necessity of learning and socialization. According these women, the majority of these people seeking these therapeutical practices when they do not find satisfactory answers in the formal health system. The caretakers noticed changes in the health status of people that using the practices and reported that they reconstruct their identities through the redemption of self-esteem. It should be noticed that non-allopathic practices are not an alternative to the biomedical model, which already have their own methods of diagnosis and treatment, but rather may be an axis of complementarity.

En este estudio, objetivamos conocer las historias de las cuidadoras de la red informal de la salud que usan prácticas no alopáticas para el cuidado con la salud mental. Utilizamoa, para eso, el método de historia oral temática. Fueron entrevistados nueve cuidadoras que trabajan en el Cientro Holístico de la Mujer - AFYA, en la ciudad de Joao Pessoa - PB en el período de mayo hasta agosto de 2007. Entre los principales resultados, se observó que algunas de las cuidadoras se aproximaran de esas prácticas debido a sufrimientos vivenciados y a la necesidad de aprendizaje y socialización. Según ellas, la mayoría de las personas buscan esas prácticas terapéuticas cuando no encuentran respuestas satisfactorias en el sistema de salud formal. Las cuidadoras percibieron cambios en el estado de salud daquellos que utilizaran esas prácticas, relatando que a través del rescate de la autoestima, esas personas reconstruíram sus identidades. Esclarecemos que las prácticas no alopáticas no son una alternativa para el modelo biomédico, ya que tienen sus propios métodos de diagnóstico y tratamientos, sino que pueden sin estar en un eje de complementariedad.O crescimento de práticas terapêuticas não alopáticas em saúde mental é uma forma diferenciada de cuidar dos que sofrem de transtorno psíquico, já que os serviços oficiais de saúde ainda não são suficientes para garantir um atendimento adequado nessa área. Nesse estudo, objetivamos conhecer as histórias das cuidadoras da rede informal de saúde que usam práticas não alopáticas no cuidado com a saúde mental. Utilizamos, para isso, o método de história oral temática. Foram entrevistadas nove cuidadoras que trabalham no Centro Holístico da Mulher – AFYA, no município de João Pessoa – PB, no período de maio a agosto de 2007. Dentre os principais resultados, observamos que algumas das cuidadoras se aproximaram dessas práticas devido a sofrimentos vivenciados e à necessidade de aprendizado e socialização. De acordo com elas, a maioria das pessoas busca essas práticas terapêuticas quando não encontram respostas satisfatórias no sistema de saúde formal. As cuidadoras perceberam mudanças no estado de saúde daqueles que utilizaram as práticas, relatando que, através do resgate da auto-estima, essas pessoas reconstruíram suas identidades.
