Resumo: | ABSTRACT The care demands of individuals with cerebral palsy may pose physical and emotional burdens on their relatives. Therefore, nurses should intervene so as to meet the needs of the family as well as of the patient. The objective of this study was to understand the experience of parents who take care of their child with cerebral palsy. This qualitative case study was performed at a health center in Botucatu, São Paulo, Brazil. Data were collected, after receiving the approval of the Ethics Committee, and then organized according to Bardin’s content analysis. The analysis of the statements allowed for grouping the results into five thematic categories: leisure activities, prejudice, care-related difficulties, the fulfillment from taking care of your children; and the lack of professional support. The discourses permitted to identify the essential aspects involved in caring for the relatives, who may also fall ill due to the difficulties comprising this experience. Por tal razón, las acciones del enfermero deben incluir las necesidades familiares. Se objetivó conocer la experiencia de padres en el cuidado de hijos con Parálisis Cerebral. Estudio cualitativo, de tipo estudio de caso, realizado en policlínica del municipio de Botucatu-SP. Participaron en las entrevistas siete sujetos. Datos recolectados bajo aprobación del Comité de Ética, organizados mediante análisis de contenido de Bardin. En el análisis de los testimonios fue posible agrupar los resultados en cinco categorías temáticas: las actividades recreativas, el preconcepto, las dificultades relacionadas al cuidado, la satisfacción al cuidar de los hijos y la falta de respaldo profesional. Los discursos permitieron conocer los aspectos esenciales para ofrecer cuidado a los familiares que a veces también pueden sufrir ante las dificultades que involucra esta experiencia. Por isso, as ações do enfermeiro devem assegurar também as necessidades da família. Este estudo objetivou conhecer a experiência dos pais no cuidado dos filhos com Paralisia Cerebral. Trata-se de estudo qualitativo, do tipo estudo de caso, realizado em uma policlínica no município de Botucatu/SP. Participaram das entrevistas sete sujeitos. Os dados foram coletados, mediante parecer favorável do Comitê de Ética, e organizados por meio da análise de conteúdo de Bardin. Na análise dos depoimentos foi possível agrupar os resultados em cinco categorias temáticas: as atividades de lazer, o preconceito, as dificuldades relacionadas ao cuidado, a satisfação ao cuidar dos filhos e a falta de suporte profissional. Os discursos permitiram conhecer os aspectos essenciais para dispensar cuidados aos familiares, que por vezes também podem adoecer diante das dificuldades que compõem essa experiência.
