Resumo: The objective of this study was to identify the theoretical knowledge of the nursing team on the cardiopulmonary resuscitation manoeuvres in basic life support, associating such knowledge to sociodemographic, economic and professional training variables. This is a cross-sectional, descriptive and quantitative study, in which the data were obtained from questionnaires applied to 351 employees of a nursing team of an emergency service and intensive care units. There was a decline in the subjects’ knowledge about resuscitation and cardiopulmonary arrest over time. Socio-economic and professional factors were associated with the knowledge of nursing professionals. It is suggested that training with shorter intervals would increase the degree of retention and knowledge of the nursing team.
